The high-speed rail in Fresno has been in development for a very long time… So long in fact, that many were unsure that it was still in development. However, Fresno has recently received $20 million in funding for the project. The Federal Railroad Administration and the California High-Speed Rail Authority announced that this project was getting this funding from the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program.
This project, along with other development projects, will be a great addition to the plans for restoring Downtown Fresno. The new railway will restore the current historic passenger rail depot building Downtown, and it will create park and plaza spaces in its early stages of development. There are also plans to include structures for zero-emissions vehicles in areas that have been historically disadvantaged. We are still waiting for more updates to this project, but predict that we will get another one in the near future now that the project has acquired this funding. Though we still won’t see the railway itself for quite a while, knowing that it’s still in the works is great news for Fresnans.
