The Ultimate Back-to-School Checklist

It’s that time of year when every parent is scrambling around and trying to make sure that their kids have everything they need to go back to school. But, inevitably, something is always forgotten. That’s why we’ve made this ultimate back-to-school checklist!

Do ASAP

  • Set up doctor’s appointments.
  • Get any needed medical forms.
  • Enroll in fall sports.
  • Add school calendar to family calendar.
  • Schedule haircuts.
  • Set up bus pickup/carpool schedules.
  • Make a meal and grocery list.
  • Set expectations for the school year with your kids (and yourself!)
  • Wash and organize any new school clothes.
  • Review school safety protocols and dress codes.
  • Plan first day of school photos.
  • Attend teacher meets/Back-to-School Night/Orientation.

Home Preparations

  • Start earlier bedtimes.
  • Start earlier wake up times.
  • Organize and set up a study space.
  • Clean out fridge and stock up on school snacks, lunches, and breakfasts.
  • Meal prep if necessary.
  • Sort through clothes to determine what’s needed.
  • Create a “drop zone” for backpacks, shoes, jackets, etc.
  • Create a space to store projects, homework, artworks, etc. (depending on what grade your kiddo is in, there might be a lot of these!)

  • Backpack.
  • Jackets and sweatshirts.
  • Shorts, jeans, skirts, and dresses.
  • Shoes.
  • Underwear.
  • Socks.
  • Laptop.
  • Pencils and pens.
  • Pencil case.
  • Erasers.
  • Pencil sharpener.
  • Index cards.
  • Ruler.
  • Lined and graph paper.
  • Notebooks.
  • Binders.
  • Highlighters.
  • Sticky Notes.
  • Markers.
  • Crayons.
  • Calculator.
  • Glue and glue sticks.
  • Water bottle.
  • Lunchbox.
  • Journal.
