Confession: I’m a sucker for live music. Pair that music with delicious food, great company and the outdoors, and I’ve found myself a little peace of Fresno Paradise. With Fresno Summer days heating up, the evenings are a great time to get outside and enjoy our local food and music culture. Here’s my list of best places for local live music in Fresno.
With beautiful outdoor lighting, a flowing fountain, and the continuous flow of live music, Starving artists Bistro has some of the most magical outdoor seating around. Go here on any given night and you may hear music, but your best chances are Thursdays through Saturday. Starving Artists features local musicians and comedians. Since opening just a few years ago, they have had over 1,000 local musicians play on their stage. Starving Artists is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 am – 10:00 pm, and is located at 9447 N. Fort Washington in Fresno.
Beer lovers are will enjoy Friday and Saturday Nights at Tioga-Sequoia. Part of the Downtown Fresno Ale Trail, they offer live music in their beer gardens. It’s also rumored that the Tioga-Sequoia Beer Garden is an excellent place to watch the fireworks from Chuckchansi Park on Grizzlies Game Nights! While Tioga-Sequoia doesn’t serve food, they do bring in a food truck for their live music nights. Check their facebook page to find out whose playing and what Food Trucks will be offered. Just outside of town, at Engelmann Cellars, a small boutique winery and event space, you can listen to live local performers (many of them cover bands like the one in the above Youtube Video) while watching the Sunset every Friday from May through September from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm. These are adult only events for ages 21 and over. General Admission is typically $10. Bring your own lawn chair/blanket, wine glass and find a spot on the grassy park area next to their vineyards. While there are no food or outside beverages allowed, they always have at least 2 to 3 food trucks available every Friday night.

Moravia Wines is just about 5 minutes from Engelmann Cellars. If you’re looking for a more family friendly place and a lower cover charge, this is your place. Every Friday Night from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm, Moravia Wines brings in fun family friendly entertainment. The cost is $5.00 per adult, free for children, and If you purchase wine, the cover charge will be applied towards your purchase. From music, to Polynesian dancing, to magic shows, they have a wide variety of entertainment throughout the summer. Pair that with the backdrop of the beautifully lit vineyard at dusk, and you’ve got a relaxing evening! They also bring in a different food truck and dessert truck every week. You are welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages. Moravia wines is located at 3620 N Bishop Ave, Fresno, CA 93723.
Bring your kids and your dog to enjoy an evening of live music in the beautiful garden setting, and shop for plants while you’re at it! Entrance is free! Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, Gazebo Gardens has a different line up of food trucks and live music performers. They offer a beer garden with a variety of beers. No outside drinks are allowed. While they do have picnic tables available, it’s sometimes a good idea to bring your own chairs to ensure you have somewhere to sit. Limon Peruvian Cuisine, in the Fort Washington Neighborhood, hosts Live Latin Jazz on Friday Nights from 7:00 pm 9:00 pm on their Patio. The above Youtube video is a sample of what you’ll hear from Delta Tango the local artists from Fresno State who play. Limon also offers Happy Hour on Fridays from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm in their bar and patio seating area, with $3.00 beers and a handful of discounted appetizers. While their Happy Hour prices are great, it would be an injustice to visit Limon without biting into either their grilled Rib Eye Steak, or Pan Seared Salmon Entrees. Both are amazing. In addition to their house Micro Brews, Sequoia Brewing Company also offers a full menu of food such as burgers, fish and chips, and Tri-tip. They have two locations; one in the Tower district, and one in North Fresno. Both Locations have outdoor dining and live performances by local bands on Friday and Saturday Nights and on some Thursdays. On Thursday nights, music starts at 8:00 pm and on Friday and Saturdays, the music starts at 9:00 pm. Their original Tower location is located at 777 East Olive Avenue, Fresno, CA 93728.
The Tasting Room is an intimate restaurant offering live entertainment (musicians and comedians) every Friday and Saturday night from 7:00 pm- 10:00 pm. There is no cover charge. They offer boutique wines, craft beers, coffee and a small appetizer menu that includes Meat, Cheese & Fruit Boards and Chocolate Fondue. Reservations are recommended. The Tasting Room also hosts the ever popular Paint Nites on Tuesday and Wednesday Nights. The Tasting room is located at 7775 N. Palm Ave., #105 Fresno, CA 93711.
