Details: Fresno EOC Central Valley Against Human Trafficking project will host the 10th Annual Roots of Resiliency Conference on Human Trafficking on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. The conference will explore a multi-disciplinary approach to regional partnerships, identification and recovery for victims of human trafficking in the Central Valley. The regional conference is open to the general public and an opportunity for concerned citizens, victim service providers, public, legal and medical professionals, law enforcement and government agencies, social workers, embassy and consulate staff, faith and business leaders to be informed and congregate to support rights for victims and survivors.

Join us for a fun evening that includes Raffle Prizes, an Appetizing Dinner and a Dessert Auction. During the evening we will have a Silent and Live Auctions with some items donated from area Restaurants, Retail stores and special one of a kind items not available to the general public. You will also enjoy our panel of community leaders that will be talking to our Master of Ceremonies Jim Franklin and how God’s role plays in their day to day work and life. Our panel includes Lorne Bell, Linda Duncan, Marvell French, Richie Shehadey, and Bill Smittcamp. Pastor Jimmy Foote will provide live music during the pre-dinner activities. Proceeds from sponsorship and attendees will benefit the faith-based work of CBMC Fresno and CBWC Fresno.

ArtHop occurs every 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. It’s one of the most active and successful programs organized by the Fresno Arts Council. Art lovers and enthusiasts from all walks of life flock downtown Fresno and the Tower District on the first Thursday of each month, and the rest of ArtHop venues in the Fresno metro areas on third Thursdays, to meet and greet with the artists and enjoy the reception and music. Museums, studios, galleries and other venues open their exhibitions to the public at 5:00 p.m. and run the free event until 8:00 p.m.

ArtHop has received a remarkable response from the Fresno community. Over 50 participating artist studios, galleries, museums, and other venues exhibit art and artists reception during ArtHop, and it has become both a cultural and special event for the community with a great deal of media coverage.

Details: The Downtown Fresno Partnership will host the annual State of the Downtown on Thursday, April 25th, 2019!
This is an opportunity to share downtown’s recent success and celebrate the people, sponsors, and organizations that have made a difference.

Rachel Howard, a Clovis High grad of ’94, has a new novel coming out on April 9, The Risk of Us. It’s about a couple trying to adopt a child out of foster care, and not intended as light entertainment, but as a story that brings readers into the simultaneous pain and beauty of the difficult foster care experience. Rachel Howard will be reading from her book on Saturday, April 27th at 11am at Petunia’s Place Bookstore in Fresno.

The Fresno Art Museum staff and Board of Trustees partner with craft cocktail purveyor Lucy’s Lounge to present The Grand Gatsby Speakeasy: Casino Night at the Museum, a fun and lively fundraiser to be hosted on the evening of Saturday, April 27, 2019. The event will take place throughout the Museum and Sculpture Garden, incorporating gaming tables, specialty craft cocktails, a cigar bar, passed light hors d’oeuvres, silent films, and musical entertainment with a 1920s flair.

The Fresno Art Museum will be transformed into 1920s period rooms, so come in costume to complete the experience!

Guests purchase casino chips and play roulette, blackjack, and other traditional casino games. Winning chips can then be redeemed throughout the evening for raffle tickets or drinks.

Lucy’s Lounge, a leader in the Valley’s craft cocktail movement, enlists some of Fresno’s top mixologists to serve up traditional and custom-crafted specialty drinks. Beer, wine, and specialty non-alcoholic options will also be available.

To add to the speakeasy vibe, Perfect Blend Fine Cigars will be situated outdoors in the Museum’s gorgeous Sculpture Garden. Folks will be able to order an Old Fashioned, purchase a quality cigar, and support the museum all at the same time.

Join Fresno Master Chorale for a single performance of J. S. Bach’s “St. John’s Passion” on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at the Paul Shaghoian Concert Hall at Clovis PAC. Soloists Maria Briggs (soprano), Julie Miller (alto), Brian Thorsett (Evangelist), Lim Forgey (bass), and Terry Lewis (Jesus) are featured. Lewis is well-known locally for his acting gifts, and Forgey a frequent presence in the Central Valley. Thorsett, as the Evangelist, carries the biggest role and has sung the role numerous times. A full orchestra completes the ensemble. This seldom performed masterpiece will be presented in English.
